How it works

Five steps, and the parts you have to take on trust are the parts you can check.

    We commit to a team

    Before a round opens we draw one of the 32 NFL teams at random along with a random nonce, and publish the SHA-256 hash of the two. The hash goes up before the first entry is accepted, so the answer is fixed before anyone plays.

  2. 2

    You bid, then you guess

    The highest bid when the clock stops wins the right to one guess at which of the 32 teams the jersey belongs to. Guess right and the jersey is yours. Guess wrong and you receive one randomly selected football card — every bid returns one or the other.

    The round closes and we reveal

    We publish the team and the nonce. Anyone can recompute the hash and confirm it matches what was posted before the round opened. The verifier is a single dependency-free file you can run yourself.

    A winner is drawn

    Among everyone who guessed correctly, one entry is drawn at random. The draw receives entry identifiers and nothing else — not who bid, not what they paid — so it cannot favour anyone. If nobody guessed right, the prize rolls over.

  5. 5

    The jersey ships authenticated

    Jerseys are sourced only from listings carrying a certificate from JSA, PSA or Beckett, and the certificate is checked by a person before the item enters the pool. It ships with a certificate of authenticity naming us.

Every bid returns something

The jersey on a correct guess, or one randomly selected football card on an incorrect one. Each round's terms describe the card pool and its expected value before you bid, so you can price the bid against what you get either way.

Common questions

How does Jersey Drop work?
Before a round opens we draw one of the 32 NFL teams at random with a random nonce and publish the SHA-256 hash of the two. The highest bid when the clock stops wins the right to submit one guess at which team the sealed jersey belongs to. After the round closes we publish the team and the nonce, so anyone can recompute the hash and confirm the answer was fixed in advance.
What happens if I guess the wrong team?
An incorrect guess receives one randomly selected football card from the pool described in that round's terms. The pool and its expected value are published before you bid, so both outcomes are known in advance.
Do I pay anything if I do not win the auction?
No. Only the winning bid is ever charged. Nothing is charged, held or authorised while bidding is open, and a losing bidder pays nothing.
How do I know the team was not chosen after the round closed?
Because the commitment hash is published before the first bid is accepted and the team and nonce are published after the round closes. Recomputing SHA-256 over the revealed team and nonce either produces the published hash or it does not. The verifier is a single dependency-free page you can run yourself at jerseydrop.live/verify.
Are the jerseys authentic?
